Red Russian kale, with its purple veins and frilled leaf edges, is one of the hardiest kale varieties. Like all kales it can be steamed, tossed into salads, baked into kale chips, and more.

Recommended Growing Requirements: Although kale can be grown year-round in mild climates, it’s best tasting in cooler seasons. If you plan to keep kale for multiple seasons make sure to amend the soil with plenty of organic matter and give it plenty of space.

Growing Recommendation: Starting seeds or direct sowing is acceptable. As kale gets larger, watering must be done frequently enough since kale leaves are made up largely of water.

Harvesting & Storage: One of the primary benefits of kale is its ability to produce and produce. Simply cut kale leaves as needed.

    I was impressed with this variety. It got very few aphids compared to other varieties and had good longevity.
