Description

Tomahooks make growing in small spaces even more tidy and productive. By using Tomahooks, you can utilize the “low and lean” method of growing. This method allows you to string up vining crops like indeterminate tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. By stringing them up and lowing them down after harvesting your produce you can grow tons of produce utilizing vertical space. The low and lean method also helps with airflow, crowding, and pest control. This commercial greenhouse method should not be overlooked! It’s a fantastic solution for urban farmers and backyard growers growing in limited space.

String sold separately.

How to use:

Tomahooks are best used when they have a structure on which to attach. On our farm, we used a very simple and inexpensive method for building a trellis over our crops. We used T posts and 1/2″ electrical conduit to build a structure that the Tomahooks could attach too. You can use zip ties to allow the Tomahooks to move.

Here is our friend Josh, explaining the trellis system we love. This trellis system can be used with any crop that needs a trellis.

As the crop grows up the string, you can trim away head leaves and keep the area tidy. This allows for better disease and pest management. As the plant produces fruits, you simply harvest the fruits, unwind the Tomahook to allow for more slack, and lower the plant down.
