What makes our shade cloth different than others?

  1. Secure stitch technology allows pre-cut panels to be cut and used in any shape or size, great for the backyard grower and urban farmer.
  2. 40% UV blockage is the best for growing vegetables, reducing sunlight transmission while still allowing for rapid plant growth and optimal photosynthesis.
  3. Light, flexible, and slightly stretchy material allows for the shade cloth to be draped, strung, hung, or tied to posts. The lightweight design also makes storing shade cloth in the off-season easy!

Sold in 8-foot x 10 foot long panels.

What can shade cloth be used for? Shade cloth is used in the following ways on our farm.

  1. Shade and protect delicate seedlings when first transplanted.
  2. Increase germination rates on direct-sown crops by reducing soil evaporation.
  3. Protect bell peppers and other crops from sunburn.
  4. Extend the season for cool-season crops like lettuces and leafy greens.
  5. Reduce the frequency of irrigation.
  6. Allow for cool-season crops to be started in a shade house with 40% shade cloth on it during hot, dry California fall weather.

Worked as you said it would. Easy to use and not too much sun block. Reduced surface evaporation. The plants love it.

Really helped us when we were seed starting in late spring and the sun was really hot in east county San Diego. Highly recommend.

The weave and stretch of this shade cloth is made with quality. During our recent heat wave, it was considerably cooler under the cloth, so much so that my cats enjoyed lounging under it. The cloth had held up well under light winds and stays in place with no fraying, bunching, overstretching, or rips.

One sheet was the perfect size for my two raised beds. The sun is hot here in Los Angeles right now and I can see a visible difference in how my seedlings are responding when the shade is up. It’s nice to know they are getting some relief from the scorching sun. Excellent product.

This shade cloth is just the right thing for my garden! Summers here get very hot. I’m on top of an east facing slope and my garden gets sun from the minute it comes up until about 5pm when the house blocks the sun. If we have Santa Ana winds (blown from the desert to the coast) my plants just bake. With the shade cloth, it blocks some of the most punishing rays, but lets air circulate and lets water through! It lets the pollinators have access too! I’m so glad SD Seed started carrying these!
