Product Information

Do you love eating healthy, fresh greens from your garden year-round? If so, these heat-tolerant greens are for you! They allow you to grow delicious fresh organic greens from your garden even in the heat of summer and fall. These greens have proven year after year that, with a little know-how, they can grow in hot conditions, providing you and your family with fresh greens year-round.

Naturally, greens enjoy the cool season where weather temperatures are mild, moisture is ample, and the days are shorter.  To get the most out of your greens during the time of the year when the weather is warmer and the days are longer, you must grow varieties that are well suited for these conditions while providing the best protection from the heat that you can.  Here are our expert tips on how to grow heat-tolerant greens year-round. We recommend adding tons of composts to retain moisture in the soil, using  Shade Cloth to protect the plants from excess UV rays and adding mulch around the plants to keep the soil cool. Use these tips while growing our heat tolerant greens collection, and you will be consuming healthy organic greens from your garden well into the summer and fall months!

Our Trialed and Tested Collection includes:

Ethiopian Kale

Black Magic Kale

Jericho Lettuce

Parris Island Cos Lettuce

These greens all displayed excellent heat resistance when grown in high-quality soil. As with any gardening, the better your soil is, the better your garden plants can resist temperature swings and pest issues. Here are our top tips for growing greens during our warm summer and fall months.

  • Add compost and Bermuda-free horse manure to your soil for added moisture retention.
  • Mulch heavily around your plants
  • Use shade cloth on the hottest days or season-long for tender greens
