Using row cover, you can help reflect some of the harmful UV light on sensitive crops, keep humidity in (essential for dry areas), and protect crops from insects. On our farm, garden row cover is an indispensable tool for growing cool-season crops during the heat of the fall months. After we plant our seedlings out, we immediately cover them with row cover to protect them from the harsh environment, dry temperatures, and insects. By using row cover, you can have the most beautiful organic produce!

Use row cover to increase your success with direct sowing seeds! By placing row cover over your crops after they have been seeded, you can see huge improvements in germination.
Light Frost Protection with Garden Row Cover
Garden row cover protects your crops from frost. Our lightweight fabric is .5 ounces. It can keep the temperature underneath up to 4 degrees warmer than outdoor temperatures when used correctly.
How to Use Row Cover
Garden row cover works best when placed over your freshly planted seeds or seedlings and kept on through the duration of the plants’ life. Doing this keeps moths and other insects from laying eggs on your produce. This method is particularly effective with crops belonging to the brassica family, which can be tormented by leaf-eating caterpillars. Simply lay the row cover material over the plants or use metal hoops to create a low tunnel allowing the plants to grow underneath with protection. Gardeners can either bury the side of the row cover or anchor it in place with smooth rocks. We do not recommend using fabric staples as this will rip the row cover material.

I live in Central Oregon (Zone 6) where the temperature drops below zero starting in October. For two years in a row I’ve planted seeds in planters in September and wrapped the planters in this row cover, which has allowed my seeds to grow and thrive outdoors through the winter to be harvested in the spring/summer. I’ve even doubled it up to trap in extra warmth and it works SO well to insulate delicate little seedlings from the winter! Highly recommend for any climate as sun cover but especially for colder winters to extend your growing season by months!
