Deadhead poppies for more blooms.

Recommended Planting Requirements: This cool-season flower crop is relatively fuss-free. Poppies can be grown in poor soil. Once established, they will return year after year by self reseeding. Gardeners can direct sow the seed in garden spaces where irrigation is present or if rainfall is to be expected. For Zones 9 and 10, poppies are best sown in the fall before seasonal rains.

Growing Recommendations: Once seeds have sprouted, thin seedlings to at least 2″ apart. Optimal spacing for the plants should be at least 12″ apart. For continual production, prune dead flowers. Butterflies, beneficial insects, and hummingbirds love poppies.
