Lovage is a specialty culinary and medicinal herb. Young leaves of Lovage taste like celery and can be used in many recipes. Roots are also edible. If allowed to flower, the flowers are a favorite of beneficial insects such as lacewings, parasitic wasps, and more.
Recommending planting requirements: Lovage is a cool-season crop that needs long periods of mild weather and a constant supply of moisture for uninterrupted growth. Transplant (recommended) 6-7 weeks before last spring frost. Transplant outdoors when plants are 5-6″ tall.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest shoots as soon as they are big enough for use. The entire plant is edible—leaves, stems, and roots are edible, and seeds can be used as a spice to season dishes.
Special Germination instructions: Lovage seeds are small and should be planted close to the surface. Light helps aid in the germination of seeds, so cover lightly with soil. If starting your seeds inside, you can cover the seed trays with plastic to create a mini-greenhouse and hold in moisture. Once seeds have sprouted, remove the plastic to prevent bacterial growth.
Special Care Tips: In areas that get hot days in the winter, we recommend keeping shade cloth handy to keep your Lovage cool. You may want to mulch to retain moisture. Harvest leaves when the plant is young to allow more stems to grow. Once the plant has grown sufficiently, you can snip whole stems for use.
