Genovese Basil seed produces large leaves that have a fragrant and strong flavor. An Italian basil classic that is perfect for tons of recipes! This full-sun annual basil has extra-large leaves that are excellent for making pesto. Height is 18-24″. Start early indoors or outside after the danger of frost has passed.

Suggested Planting Requirements: Basil enjoys rich, light well-drained soil. Because of the heavy development of leaves, fertilizing is important and may be done organically with compost or manure. Keeping basil evenly moist will prevent bolting. You may add mulch to keep moisture levels even.

Growing Recommendations: This annual must be grown in full sun during spring and fall. Southern California growers may grow basil year-round in frost-free areas. For cooler areas, place basil in the warmest part of the yard. In hot climates, place in a cooler area with near-to-full sun.

Harvesting & Storing: Flavor in basil is at its best before it flowers, but you can still harvest well into the blooming period. Continuously remove flowers as they appear to extend the life and flavor of a plant.

When you can’t fight the flowering process any longer, don’t miss the opportunity to feed the pollinators! Beneficial insects, pollinators, and butterflies love basil and other herb flowers!

This beautiful and fragrant basil has been thriving in my summer garden! Great germination rate, and bounced right back after getting munched on by pests.
