Zinnia – California Mix
This beautiful flower is an open-pollinated summer annual. It blooms in brilliant colors of shades of orange, purple, red, white, and yellow during the high heat of the summer. Large, 4″-5″ blooms on strong stems make this mix perfect for the cut flower gardener. Very easy to grow, and adds a rainbow of color to any planting. Grows wild in Mexico, and is best as a direct-sow seed. Thin to 6″-12″ apart. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the blooming season and let go to seed for return volunteers the next year.
Flowers: Good cut flower the blooms from summer to fall. It can be eaten and best when paired with meat in tacos, or drink it in lemonade and tea, use in a fruit salad or even on pancakes.
Attracts: Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, honey bees love zinnias and beneficial insects.
Soil: Adaptable to various soil types, but needs good drainage.
