Dwarf Sungold Sunflower seeds produce adorable short sunflowers with the softest unique flowers. Unlike normal sunflowers, Dwarf Sungold sunflower seeds produce fully petaled heads that are so fun and unique! Great for children’s gardens and as border plants. The golden orbs of tightly packed petals are great as cut flowers and for butterfly gardens. These multi-branching sunflowers produce several 4″ flower heads on one plant, making it great for the cutting garden. Simply cut the blooms that you want early in the morning when they are just opening and put immediately in water for the longest-lasting blooms.
Flowers: Blooms early spring through fall. In many parts of zones 9 and 10, they can be grown year-round! For areas with a hard frost, start indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost.
Attracts: Attracts bees and butterflies; leaves are favored by finches. A wonderful flower for children’s gardens or as a border plant.
Soil: Sunflowers are so easy to grow! They are adaptable to various moderately fertile soil types.
Planting instructions: Sunflower seeds are one of the easiest seeds to plant! You can direct sow them in finely worked soil or transplant them. Seeds should be planted about 1/2 deep. If transplanting them, they can be started 2-3 before planting out in the garden. You can start the sunflowers in recycled 4″ pots and transplant them out when they reach about 4″. If you direct sow them, prep your garden space by clearing weeds, breaking up the soil, and watering well before you put the seeds in the ground. Seeds must remain moist to germinate. When seedlings are tiny, provide protection until they are large enough to fend for themselves. Once sunflowers have bloomed, you can let them produce seeds that the birds will love!
