An heirloom stem variety favorite for its tall and juicy stalks.
Recommending Planting Requirements: Celery is a cool-season crop that needs long periods of mild weather and a constant supply of moisture for uninterrupted growth.
Growing Recommendations: Celery thrives in rich moist soil.
Harvesting & Storage: You can harvest celery shoots as soon as they are big enough for use.
Additional Information: There are three types of celery: Stem or Stalk, Celery Root or Celeriac, and Chinese celery. Stem or Stalk celery is cultivated for the stems to be used in cooking. Celery Root or Celeriac is a type of celery prized for its starchy root that is used in soups and stews. Chinese celery looks like an herb and is grown for its aromatic leaves. Sometimes called soup or leaf celery.
Special Germination Instructions: Celery seeds are small and should be planted close to the surface. Light helps aid in the germination of celery seeds, so cover lightly with soil. If starting your seeds in starts, you can cover the seed trays with plastic to create a mini-greenhouse and hold in moisture. Once seeds have sprouted, remove the plastic to prevent bacteria growth.
Special Care Tips: In areas that get hot days in the winter, we recommend keeping shade cloth handy to keep your celery cool. You may want to add mulch to retain moisture.
