Bean – So Cal Flavor Trio – Bush
Our custom mix, So Cal Flavor Trio is a mix of colorful bush beans that are selected for their outstanding flavor and heavy yield in small spaces. These plants are very productive with disease resistance.
Suggested Planting Requirements: Legumes like a well-drained soil rich in organic matter and a moderate amount of nutrients. Plants should be watered lightly at the time of planting, medium at flowering and heavily throughout harvest time. Despite the warning against transplanting your beans, on our farm we almost always start our seeds in the greenhouse and plant them out. This allows for perfect spacing on our small farm. Bush beans do well when they are spaced 6-12″ apart. Depending on your preference you may start indoors for short-season growing, or seed directly once soils have reached at least 48F, after the last frost. If you plant them too soon in cold soil, your seeds will likely rot. Soak beans for 24 hours before planting for expedited germination.
Growing Recommendations: Avoid overhead watering to prevent diseases. The more you pick, the more beans the plant will produce. Weeding is important to keep plants healthy. Checking the plant every few days is a good practice. Space the plants 6- 8″ to provide ample airflow and prevent fungal issues.
Harvesting & Storage: Pick regularly to extend the harvest period. When you have enough beans harvested you can let the remaining beans mature and dry them on the vine to use as shell beans. Fresh pole beans freeze well.
