Landreth’s Stringless bean seeds have been around since 1885 and for good reason! A prolific and meaty variety of bush bean with exceptional production and disease resistance. Landreth’s Stringless bean seeds produce beans that do not have the “string” that is common to bush beans. This makes the preparation of the beans a bit easier even though we have fond memories of “stringing beans” with grandma.

Suggested Planting Requirements: Legumes like a well-drained soil rich in organic matter and a moderate amount of nutrients. Plants should be watered lightly at the time of planting, medium at flowering, and heavily throughout harvest time. Despite the warning against transplanting your beans, on our farm we almost always start our seeds in the greenhouse and plant them out. This allows for perfect spacing on our small farm. Depending on your preference you may start indoors for short-season growing, or seed directly once soils have reached at least 48F, after the last frost. If you plant them too soon in cold soil, your seeds will likely rot. For expedited germination soak beans for 24 hours before planting.

Growing Recommendations: Avoid overhead watering to prevent diseases. The more you pick, the more beans the plant will produce. Checking the plant every few days is a good practice. Space the plants 6-8″ apart to provide ample airflow and prevent fungal issues. For bush bean varieties, succession planting every 2 weeks will ensure a constant supply of beans for the summer months.

Harvesting & Storage: Pick regularly to extend the harvest period. When you have enough beans harvested you can let the remaining beans mature and dry them on the vine to use as shell beans. Fresh pole beans freeze well. Learn how to freeze beans from the garden!
