Suggested Planting Requirements: A warm season plant that can be grown from early spring and into warmer months in Southern California. It can be directly sown in full sun. Soil should be kept moist for germination. Indian Spring Hollyhocks are fuss-free flowers, thriving in a wide range of soils and conditions. If transplanting, wait until seedlings are 3-4 inches tall to be moved to the garden.

Growing Recommendations: Indian Spring Hollyhocks can be grown in relatively poor soil but respond well to small additions of compost and fertilizer. Hollyhocks are susceptible to mallow rust – a fungal disease of the leaves. Allow air circulation between plants, avoid overhead watering, and remove plant debris at the end of the season to avoid problems. Because of their height, hollyhocks make a great back-of-the-border flower for the garden.

Harvesting & Storing: These stunning old-fashioned flowers may be harvested as cut flowers for beautiful bouquets that will remind you of summers past. Cut early in the morning for fresh longer-lasting bouquets. Hollyhocks are a great pollinator plant! They attract bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. Allow seed pods to develop for reseeding the following year. The main stems of the plant can be cut down to the ground at the end of the growing season.
